FandomGobbler Privacy Policy (formerly AO3 Story Tracker)
Last updated: September 24, 2026
The short version
- FandomGobbler (formerly AO3 Story Tracker) stores your reading list in your own browser. There is no FandomGobbler account and no FandomGobbler server.
- I (the developer) never receive, see, or store your data. There are no analytics or trackers, and nothing is sold.
- Google Sheets sync is optional. If you turn it on, your library is copied to a spreadsheet in your own Google Drive, and nowhere else.
- You can turn sync off, revoke Google access, and delete your data at any time. See Your controls.
What FandomGobbler stores in your browser
FandomGobbler saves its data in your browser's extension storage, on your device. This can include:
- works you track and their details: title, author, link, fandoms, relationship, summary, word count, chapter progress, stats, dates, and reading status
- things you add: custom categories, star ratings, notes, author notes, hidden-tag rules, relationship groups, and author watch settings
- progress for AO3 bookmark and Marked for Later imports
- settings such as theme, layout, and display preferences
- if you use Google Sheets sync: whether sync is on, the ID of your sync spreadsheet, sync status, and the email address of the connected Google account
When data leaves your browser
FandomGobbler only connects to other websites for the features that need them:
- Archive of Our Own (archiveofourown.org). To read work pages, import your bookmarks and Marked for Later list, check for updates from authors you watch, and check whether tracked works have been deleted. These requests use your existing AO3 login in your browser, so FandomGobbler can see the same pages you can.
- FanFiction.net (fanfiction.net). To read the pages you visit there.
- Google (only if you turn on Google Sheets sync). To sign in to your Google account and read and write your sync spreadsheet. Details below.
FandomGobbler does not send your data to any server run by me or anyone else, and does not use analytics or advertising services.
Optional Google Sheets sync
What it does
Browser storage doesn't follow you between devices. Google Sheets sync fills that gap by keeping a copy of your library in a spreadsheet named FandomGobbler Sync (Do Not Edit This File) in your own Google Drive. It works in both directions: FandomGobbler writes your library to the spreadsheet, and brings in works that were added or changed on your other devices. It syncs when you press Sync Now and automatically about every 15 minutes while sync is turned on.
The spreadsheet contains your tracked works and the details listed above (titles, authors, links, statuses, categories, fandoms, relationships, summaries, notes, ratings, stats, series information, chapter progress, and dates), a list of works you removed so they stay removed on your other devices, your "Up Next" reading queue, and easy-to-read Desktop and Mobile views.
What Google access FandomGobbler asks for, and why
- See, edit, create, and delete your Google Sheets spreadsheets (
…/auth/spreadsheets): to create your sync spreadsheet and read and write the rows in it. FandomGobbler only works with its own sync spreadsheet and does not open, read, or change any of your other spreadsheets. - See, edit, create, and delete only the specific Google Drive files you use with this app (
…/auth/drive.file): to find the sync spreadsheet FandomGobbler created, so a new device can reconnect to it. This does not give access to your other Drive files. - See your Google account's email address (
…/auth/userinfo.email): to notice if you switch to a different Google account, so your library isn't synced into the wrong account's spreadsheet.
How your Google data is used, stored, and shared
- Used: only to provide the sync feature described above.
- Stored: your synced library is stored in the spreadsheet in your Google Drive. The sign-in token that lets FandomGobbler reach that spreadsheet is kept on your device, either by your browser's built-in sign-in system or in the extension's local storage. The connected account's email address is kept in the extension's local storage.
- Shared: with no one. Your Google data goes only between your browser and Google. I never receive it, and it is not sold, used for advertising, or used to train AI models.
FandomGobbler's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy ↗, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your controls
- Edit or remove data: remove works, notes, ratings, categories, and settings from inside the extension at any time. You can also export and import your library.
- Stop syncing: use Disconnect in FandomGobbler's Google Sheets settings. Syncing stops, but Google access stays granted until you revoke it.
- Revoke Google access: go to your Google Account → Security → Your connections to third-party apps & services, choose FandomGobbler, and remove its access.
- Delete synced data: delete the FandomGobbler Sync (Do Not Edit This File) spreadsheet from your Google Drive. Disconnecting or uninstalling does not delete it for you.
- Delete everything in your browser: uninstalling FandomGobbler removes all of its browser storage, including any saved sign-in token.
Browser permissions
- Storage: to save your library and settings in your browser.
- Active tab: to know which work you're viewing when you open the popup.
- Notifications: to tell you when a tracked work may have been deleted or an author you watch posts something new.
- Identity: to sign in to Google for the optional Sheets sync.
- Alarms: to run scheduled checks and syncs in the background.
- Site access to archiveofourown.org, fanfiction.net, and Google's sign-in and Sheets/Drive services, for the features described above.
